The Watcher – The Old Woman of The Notch Rock Profile

New Hampshire’s most famous rock profile is the Old Man on The Mountain but have you ever heard of The Watcher, also known as the Old Woman of The Notch?  This rock formation can be found in beautiful Franconia NH. Some call her the Maid of the Mountain or the Old Lady of the Mountain as well.  She dates back to when the Old Man of the Mountain was originally formed.

About The Old Woman of The Notch

The Old Woman of the Mountain is smaller than the original Old Man of The Mountain and it is a lot more difficult to get find.  The Old Woman of the Notch can be found in Franconia New Hampshire.  It is part of a rock outcropping of Eagle Cliff which is part of Mt. Lafayette and is a completely natural rock formation.

The Old Woman of The Notch (aka The Watcher NH) Appearance

The Old Woman of the Notch in Franconia NH has a unique appearance and depicts a woman’s face and he “hair” is made up from is made up from some tall trees at the top of the rock formation.  Her “hair” appears tall and some people think it even looks like a head dress of some sort.

Where To View The Old Woman of The Notch / The Watcher

The Watcher NH can be viewed from a small clearing on Profile Lake on the South end while looking at the highest part of Eagle Cliff.  It takes more work to see this view than the Old Man of The Mountain but it is worth the hike!
